Sunday 2nd October
I've always wanted to take part in a charity fundraising event, but through one thing or another I've just havn't got around to actually doing it, until now....

Today my daughters and I took part in a 6K charity walk for Alzehemers. This charity is so very close to my heart as my wonderful mum has dementia. This is such an awful disease which can strike anyone. Its heartbreaking to see your loved ones with this.
We arrived at the venue which was in Hylands park in Chelmsford Essex. I really didn't know what to expect to be honest. It was PACKED!! There was a variety of ages both young and old, some peope were dressed up and some even brought their pet dogs along, it really was a family event. It was a fantastic atmosphere. The DJ did a great job of keeping everyone entertained and they even organised a zumba class which we took part in. There were lots of food and refreshments at hand which was a bonus, (I must admit the bacon roll and hot cuppa went down a treat.)

The walk started at 11 o'clock with the Town Crier counting us down and than we were off. The event organisers were located around the route and cheered us on as we went by. As we were making our way around it suddenly hits you at the vast amount of people who are/was suffering with Dementia and Alzehemers.

We were given a label to wear on our t-shirts which said "I'm walking for....." and there were messages and pictures of loved ones. It was quite sad to read some of them. On a brighter note everyone was having a great time, what could be better. Fun, laughter and raising money for a great cause. This event was well organised and I shall definately be taking part in more charity events in the future.

As we finished the walk we were awarded a medal as a keepsake, I must admit we do feel quite proud to have taken part.

Love SS xx
